President Anthony Carmona is urging the local Olympic Committee to write to the International Olympic Committee to allow the “golden quartet” to receive their gold medal at the Japan Olympics in 2020.

President Carmona congratulated the four athletes, Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callender and Richard “Torpedo” Thompson who originally earned silver at the 2008 games

The Trinidad and Tobago quartet are now in line to receive the Olympic gold  medal after  the disqualification of the Jamaican relay team due to positive doping charges.

The Jamaican were disqualified after Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter tested positive for a banned substance.

Carmona noted that the T&T team “are set to be inducted to that good and honourable elite core of gold medal athletes produced by Trinidad and Tobago on the world stage.”

“It is my intention as patron of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee to meet with the president of the Organisation, Brian Lewis, in the hope that I could convince him to write to the International Olympic Committee to request, if it comes to pass, that at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, that the Trinbagonian quartet would be presented with their medals as our flag is hoisted and our national anthem played…So that we as a nation can stay in our television rooms and clap and cry and be proud that we have in fact won another gold, notwithstanding the fact that we are receiving that gold years and years after.” he said.
